Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani and his accompanying delegation met with Turkey’s Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu in Ankara on Friday.
The meeting covered the Kurdistan Region and Iraq’s relations with Turkey and ways to further strengthen bilateral ties in all fields, particularly in the economic sector, as both sides emphasized on further expansion of trade between the two countries.
The President and the Foreign Minister also discussed the COVID-19 pandemic and its implications on the economic sector in both Kurdistan Region and Turkey. Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu expressed his country’s willingness to provide medical assistance to the Kurdistan Region to help contain the virus.
The Erbil-Baghdad relations and the ongoing negotiations between both sides, the threats of ISIS resurgence and ways to confront them, issues of bilateral interest, and the latest developments in the wider region were also discussed at the meeting.
