Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani received Iraq’s Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi in Erbil on Friday.
In the meeting, both sides discussed the latest developments in Iraq, the pending issues between the federal government and the Kurdistan Region, and the importance of unity and a common stance towards the challenges currently facing the country.
Both sides reiterated the importance of the Erbil-Baghdad negotiations based on the constitution, as well as the importance of reaching a comprehensive solution that would serve the country and all its communities.
The discussions also covered the ongoing coordination and cooperation on security issues between the Peshmerga and Iraq’s army in order to confront the ISIS terrorists and ensure stability, as well as to provide assistance to the refugees to return to their home areas. Both sides exchanged views regarding the significance of holding free and fair elections that can manifest the will and demands of the people of Iraq.
