President Nechirvan Barzani and Mohamed Al-Halbousi discuss Iraq’s political process

Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani and Head of the Taqadum Alliance, Mr. Mohamed Al-Halbousi held a meeting in Erbil on Tuesday. Discussions covered a wide range of topics, including the latest developments in the war on terrorism and the recent threats and assaults of ISIS, especially in areas with security vacuum between the Iraqi army and the Peshmarga forces, where a large number of people lost their lives recently, including several members of the Iraqi Army, the Peshmarga forces and also innocent civilians.

President Nechirvan Barzani and Mr. Mohamed Al-Halbousi reaffirmed the role, the participation and the status of the Kurdish and Sunni communities in Iraq’s political process as the two main components of the country, alongside the Shiite and other Iraqi communities. They also highlighted the importance of collective cooperation and mutual understanding among Iraqi factions and parties to take necessary steps in regards to the political process and the establishment of a government that is inclusive and brings Iraq’s factions and components together; a government which is responsive to the will and demands of citizens for lasting peace, stronger stability, improved public services and better livelihood.

Both sides reiterated the importance and need of rapidly optimizing the coordination mechanism between the Army and the Peshmarga to confront and defeat the terrorists. It was also underlined that correcting the political process, maintaining political stability and peace in the country are urgent priorities in the war on terror.
