President Nechirvan Barzani and Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis of Greece discuss bilateral relations and cooperation

President Nechirvan Barzani met with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis at the Munich Security Conference in Germany on Friday afternoon.

The two leaders discussed the opportunities for the development of Greek relations with Iraq and the Kurdistan Region and expanding joint cooperation. They also addressed the security and political situation in Iraq, including the ongoing talks between Erbil and Baghdad to resolve their issues. They emphasized the importance of combating terrorism, particularly the threat posed by ISIS in the region.

Both sides stressed the desire to promote relations in all fields. In this regard, Prime Minister Mitsotakis expressed his desire to visit Iraq and the Kurdistan Region in the near future. The two also exchanged views on the dangers arising from the tensions in the Middle East, both emphasizing that stability in the region must be maintained and conflicts must not be allowed to escalate further.

The meeting also covered Iraq’s and the Kurdistan Region’s relations with neighboring countries, the situation in Syria, and other topics of mutual interest.
