Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani met with the United Nations’ Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Iraq, Ms. Jeanine Hennis- Plasschaert, in Erbil on Tuesday.
The latest developments in Iraq, the political process in the country, the current talks between Erbil and Baghdad on pending issues and ways to resolve them were discussed at the meeting.
The President highlighted the positive contributions and role of the United Nations in Iraq and reiterated that the organization can help Iraq resolve its problems, overcome its difficulties and stand up to the current challenges facing the country.
The federal system in Iraq, the upcoming elections, confronting terrorism and ISIS movements and other issues of bilateral interest were also discussed at the meeting.
