President Nechirvan Barzani met with the President of the Syrian Arab Republic, Ahmed Al-Sharaa, in Damascus.
The meeting focused on relations between Syria, Iraq, and the Kurdistan Region, with both sides emphasizing the importance of strengthening cooperation across various fields, particularly in the economic sector. The meeting was also attended by Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Hassan Al-Shaibani.
The two sides also exchanged views on the latest regional developments, stressing the importance of strengthening security and stability, expanding regional cooperation, and resolving disputes through dialogue and peaceful means.
The meeting underscored the importance of safeguarding the rights of all communities in the new Syria. President Al-Sharaa expressed his appreciation to the Kurdistan Region for hosting Syrian refugees during the years of conflict, affirming Syria's appreciation for the role of Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.
For his part, President Nechirvan Barzani commended President Al-Sharaa's role in the progress achieved across various sectors in Syria, as well as the country's active engagement at the regional and international levels.
The meeting also addressed other issues of mutual interest.
