President Nechirvan Barzani reiterated the importance of self-restraint by all sides and increased efforts to restore peace and stability in Iraq and the region. He also emphasized Iraq should not become a battleground for settling disputes and differences among regional and international powers.
Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani received the US Assistant Secretary for Near Eastern Affairs David Schenker and his accompanying delegation in Erbil today.
The latest developments and tensions in Iraq and the region as well as relations and dialogue between Erbil and Baghdad were discussed in the meeting. The two sides also shed light on the dangers of the resurgence of terrorism and the ways to confront terrorism with the cooperation and support from the international coalition.
The political process in Iraq and the ongoing efforts to build the next Iraqi cabinet, the Iraqi demonstrations and their demands were also put to discussion along with the Iraq and Kurdistan Region’s relations with the United States.
