President Nechirvan Barzani met with Sheikh Hamid Maala al-Saedi, Head of the General Assembly of Iraq’s National Wisdom Movement, and his accompanying delegation, in Erbil on Tuesday.
At the meeting, both sides discussed the latest political and security developments in Iraq as well as the upcoming early elections. The two sides exchanged views on mechanisms to nominate new candidates to Iraq’s Supreme Court, the Erbil-Baghdad negotiations, and ways to resolve pending disagreements.
Both sides agreed that the latest security developments in Iraq, including threats against diplomatic missions and embassies, will endanger the interests of the country. The two sides also reiterated that collective efforts and cooperation among all Iraqi groups are necessary to surpass the current crises and preserve national interests.
President Nechirvan Barzani expressed the Kurdistan Region’s readiness and will to resolve all differences with the Federal Government in Baghdad in accordance with the constitution. The President emphasized that the resolution of existing disputes in Iraq and the lingering disagreements between Erbil and Baghdad is the key to stability in the country.
