President Nechirvan Barzani received Haibat Al-Halbousi, Speaker of the Iraqi Council of Representatives, along with his accompanying delegation, which included several heads of parliamentary blocs. The delegation visited Erbil to extend condolences on the passing of the late Abdulwahid Ibrahim Sheikh Abdul-Salam Barzani.
President Nechirvan Barzani expressed his gratitude for the visit and condolences. Haibat Al-Halbousi then briefed President Nechirvan Barzani on his recent official visit to Türkiye and his meetings with the President and senior officials. In this regard, President Nechirvan Barzani emphasized the importance of strengthening Iraq’s relations with Türkiye, noting that enhanced bilateral cooperation serves the interests of both countries.
Regarding the internal situation in Iraq, both sides agreed that the security and stability of Iraq and the Kurdistan Region are closely interconnected. On the issue of bringing arms under state control, President Nechirvan Barzani reaffirmed the Kurdistan Region’s support for the Prime Minister and the Federal Government in resolving the issue through dialogue and mutual understanding, ensuring that weapons remain solely in the hands of the state.
They also discussed the importance of resolving outstanding issues between Erbil and Baghdad in accordance with the Constitution, ensuring the rights and entitlements of all communities, as well as the Kurdistan Region’s budget. They also discussed the latest regional developments and their implications. Both sides emphasized the importance of unity and coordination among all Iraqi parties in addressing and overcoming the challenges facing the country.
