March 5, 2026
Today, we proudly commemorate the 35th anniversary of the March 1991 Uprising. On this occasion, I extend my deepest congratulations to the families of our martyrs, the valiant Peshmerga forces, and all Kurdistani people, wherever they may be. We bow our heads in reverence to the souls of those who gave their lives in the uprising, and to all the martyrs of Kurdistan.
The uprising marked a pivotal moment and a resolute reaction from the people of Kurdistan against oppression, steering towards freedom and prosperity. This sacred anniversary arrives during a period when the region faces a complex and delicate situation. The rising tensions and adverse effects of the conflict impose a significant responsibility on all of us to uphold peace and stability within the Kurdistan Region.
On this occasion, we reaffirm that the Kurdistan Region will consistently serve as a cornerstone of peace and will not engage in any conflict or military escalation that jeopardizes the lives and security of our people. Safeguarding the status of the Kurdistan Region and our constitutional achievements can only be realized through unity, solidarity, and a collective national responsibility among all political parties, and communities in Kurdistan.
May this anniversary inspire us to surmount challenges and enhance the culture of coexistence and tolerance. Honoring the sacrifices of the martyrs means cooperating and working together; striving to ensure stability and construct a brighter future for our upcoming generations.
We salute the anniversary of the uprising.
Wishing peace and stability for Kurdistan.
Nechirvan Barzani
