Today marks the eleventh anniversary of the genocide against the Yezidis. We commemorate and pay our respects to the victims of this heinous act perpetrated by ISIS. Our commitment to supporting our Yezidi citizens remains steadfast. Despite the immense suffering they have endured, we look ahead with optimism, working together to heal their wounds.

It is profoundly disheartening and concerning that, eleven years on, nearly half of the Yezidi population continues to face difficult economic, social, and psychological conditions in the camps. The Iraqi government has a responsibility to fully embrace its Yezidi citizens and must no longer allow Sinjar and the Yezidi areas to remain a battleground for militias and armed groups pursuing regional agendas.

Restoring trust, security, peace, prosperity, and essential services to Sinjar and its surroundings is imperative. Justice must be served for the Yezidi community, and those responsible for these atrocities must be held accountable. We therefore stress the importance of implementing the agreement between the Kurdistan Regional Government and the Federal Iraqi Government to normalize conditions in Sinjar and elevate it to provincial status. We also urge the international community to extend its support to the Yezidis in every possible way.

We express our gratitude to all nations that have recognized the Yezidi massacre as genocide, and we will continue our efforts to achieve broader international recognition of this atrocity. We appreciate the assistance of the international coalition in the fight against ISIS. We assure our Yezidi brothers and sisters that we will always stand by their side, and as long as there remains a Yezidi individual in captivity, our office will tirelessly work towards their rescue and the clarification of their fate.

We pay tribute to the memory and souls of the Yezidi victims, and to the strength and resilience of the Yezidi people. We also honor the memory and souls of the valiant Peshmerga who sacrificed their lives to liberate Sinjar and all communities in Kurdistan and Iraq under the leadership of President Masoud Barzani.
