I welcome the court’s decision to sentence the criminal Ajaj al-Tikriti, known as the butcher of Nugra Salman. This ruling is a victory for justice and, at the very least, a source of comfort for the families of the Anfal victims. I extend my appreciation to the judges, lawyers, courageous witnesses, and everyone who contributed to bringing the criminal to justice.
The sentencing of this criminal after many years sends a clear message that the crimes of genocide and crimes against humanity committed against the people of Kurdistan will never be forgotten, and that the hand of justice will always reach the perpetrators. Today, it has once again been proven that the will for rights and life is stronger than oppression and brutality.
On this occasion, we reaffirm that the Federal Government of Iraq must fulfill its responsibilities and provide material and moral compensation to the victims of Anfal, which the Iraqi High Tribunal has recognized as genocide.
May the memory of the martyrs of Anfal and all the martyrs of Kurdistan remain forever honored, and may their souls rest in peace.
