Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani received Brigadier Richard Bell, the Deputy Commanding General of the Coalition Forces in Iraq and Syria.
President Nechirvan Barzani congratulated Brigadier Bell on assuming office and wished him success in his new mission. The President expressed the Kurdistan Region's commitment to continue the cooperation and coordination with the Coalition Forces, including their joint work against ISIS resurgence. The President stressed that the elimination of terrorism will not be obtained only through military means, but it must also be fought ideologically.
For his part, General Bell commended the role of the Kurdistan Region and the Peshmerga in defeating ISIS, stressing the necessity of intelligence sharing and the importance of dismantling ISIS funding resources. The need for more coordination among the Iraqi army, the Peshmerga and the Coalition Forces to completely eliminate ISIS was affirmed.
It was underlined that the formation of centers of cooperation and joint coordination between the Peshmerga and the Iraqi army, especially in areas with security vacuum, is an important task.
Discussions also covered latest security developments in Iraq and Syria and the threats of terrorism and other issues of common interest.
