Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani received Dr. Barham Salih, Iraq’s President, in Erbil on Thursday.
At the meeting, attended by Kurdistan Region Vice Presidents and Deputy Prime Minister, the latest developments in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region were highlighted, particularly the upcoming early elections and ways to support the preparations for fair and free elections that serve the mutual interest of the people and all communities in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.
The meeting affirmed the need to resolve disputes and rivalries and to hold dialogue among the political parties. The meeting valued Kurdistan Region President’s last visit to Baghdad and his recent meetings with Iraq's leaders.
Discussions also focused on bringing about national unity and a common vision in order to resolve the differences and to face the challenges ahead.
The latest developments in the greater region were highlighted and it was stressed that security challenges and political instability will not serve the common interests of the people in the wider region.
