Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani met with Mr. Ammar al-Hakim, the leader of the National Wisdom (Al-Hikma) Movement in Baghdad on Wednesday.
Discussions covered the situation in Iraq, the upcoming snap elections in the country, and the pending issues between the federal government and the Kurdistan Region as well as ways to resolve the disagreements between Erbil and Baghdad.
Both sides agreed on the importance of a national will in addressing the difficulties of the country, as well as the significance of cooperation among Iraq’s parties in order to look to the future with a common vision, confront the challenges, and overcome the hardships.
At the meeting, which was attended by Kurdistan Region Vice Presidents, President Nechirvan Barzani congratulated Mr. al-Hakim and the leadership of the newly formed Iraqi Alliance and wished them success in their new mission. Confronting terror activities, the political process in the country, and the importance of the participation of all Iraqi groups in sharing power was also discussed.
Both sides also reiterated the importance of upholding the rule of the law and the sovereignty of Iraq and reaffirmed commitment to the constitution and the federal system in order to safeguard the stability in the country.
