Kurdistan Region President meets with U.S. Ambassador to Iraq

On Wednesday evening, February 5, Kurdistan Region President, Nechirvan Barzani received the U.S Ambassador to Iraq, Mr. Mathew Tueller, and his accompanying delegation.

In the meeting, the latest developments in Iraq, the demonstrations and the tasking of the new prime minister to form the incoming Iraqi government were discussed. Both sides underlined the importance of peace and stability in regards to Iraq’s security and political situation as they also reiterated the need to bring the political process back to the right path in the country.

President Nechirvan Barzani emphasized that Kurdistan Region as always will remain a factor that supports political stability in Iraq and will assist the next Iraqi government to resolve the problems and the crises and also to meet the demands and grievances of the protesters for a better standard of living and a future that is worthy of the Iraqi people.

The president and the ambassador also spoke about the meeting between the two presidents, Nechirvan Barzani and Donald Trump in Davos, Switzerland, and the future of the Iraq-U.S relations, the complications, the tensions and the latest developments between the U.S. and Iran and the impact of the events on the situation in Iraq and the wider region.

Efforts aimed at de-escalation, the danger of terror resurgence and how to confront it, Iraq and Kurdistan Region’s need for the international coalitions’ continued support and assistance against terror were also discussed.
