Kurdistan Region President meets with US Deputy Special Envoy to Syria

Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani received Mr. David Brownstein, the US Deputy Special Envoy to Syria, in Erbil on Sunday.

In a meeting attended by the US Consul General in Erbil, Mr. Rob Waller, the latest developments in Syria, the mission of the United States and the International Coalition against ISIS, the presence of the international forces, and the situation in northern and eastern Syria were discussed. Both sides reaffirmed the importance of stability and dialogue among the Kurdish groups in the country and highlighted the status of the Kurdish question in the country.

President Nechirvan Barzani emphasized that the solution to the complex situation in Syria will not be found overnight and that military means do not lead to solutions. Rather, the Syrian problem must be resolved through political methods and dialogue. On the Kurdish question in the country, the President stated that the Kurdish issue must be addressed and resolved within Syrian.

With regards to the mission of the US and the International Coalition, Mr. Brownstein stressed that ISIS still poses a real threat and to confront it, the US and the International Coalition will continue to support their allied forces and groups in Syria.
