Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani received Mr. Ulric Shannon, the outgoing Ambassador of Canada to Iraq, who paid a farewell visit to the President upon completion of his term in office.
The President thanked Ambassador Shannon for his contributions and efforts to promote Canada’s relations with Iraq and the Kurdistan Region and wished him success in his future duties. The Ambassador reiterated that Canada attaches great importance to its relations with Iraq and the Kurdistan Region and expressed hope that bilateral relations are strengthened in all areas.
At the meeting, attended by the Head of the Office of the Embassy of Canada in Erbil, discussions also covered the Iraqi parliamentary elections with the participation of Canadian observers, the stance and views of the Kurdistani factions regarding the developments after the elections, the issues of liberties, freedom of expression and press freedom in the Kurdistan Region.
