The President of the Kurdistan Region Nechirvan Barzani received Mr. Sayyid Ammar Al-Hakim, the Leader of Iraq’s National Wisdom Movement. Mr. Hakim is visiting Erbil to attend a memorial ceremony to commemorate the martyrdom of Ayatollah Muhammad Baqir Al-Hakim, the Shaheed Al-Mehraab.
President Nechirvan Barzani valued the role of the late Ayatollah Al-Hakim in confronting the former Ba’ath regime and in supporting the rights of the people of Kurdistan. The President paid tribute to Ayatollah Al-Hakim for his efforts to bring together the political parties and communities in the country, and for his important contributions to the establishment of the new Iraq.
The meeting, attended by the Kurdistan Region Vice Presidents, covered the latest political and security developments, Erbil-Baghdad negotiations and ongoing measures to contain the COVID-19 pandemic in the country.
Both sides recognized the importance of unity, consensus and cooperation among all Iraqi parties and communities in order to overcome the current crises.
