President Nechirvan Barzani received the Ambassador of the United Kingdom to Iraq, Mr. Stephen Hickey, who was accompanied by UK Consul General in Erbil, Mr. James Thornton.
Discussions focused on the continuing support of the international community, UK’s support of reform efforts, Erbil-Baghdad negotiations, Iraq’s draft budget including the Region’s share, the Shingal agreement, continuing terrorism threats, Iraq's upcoming elections, and developments within the Region.
President Barzani reaffirmed the Kurdistan Region’s readiness to fully resolve disagreements with Baghdad in accordance with the letter and spirit of the Iraq Constitution. He emphasized that an effective federal system of governance is key to peace and stability in Iraq.
Ambassador Thornton reiterated British interest in continuing support and cooperation with the Kurdistan Region and Iraq.
