President Barzani Meets Iraqi Leaders in Baghdad

President of the Kurdistan Region Nechirvan Barzani arrived in Baghdad for a series of meetings with Iraqi leaders. President Barzani met with Iraq’s President Barham Salih, Iraq’s Prime Minister Adel Abdul-Mahdi and the Speaker of the Council of Representatives Mohamed al-Halbousi.

During the meeting, President Barzani addressed the political and security situation in Iraq and the relations of the Kurdistan Region with the Iraqi federal Government, stressing the importance of securing stability and improving the standard of living in the country.

The meetings included discussions on the latest developments in Iraq, demonstrations in Baghdad and other Iraqi cities and necessary measures needed to solve the current security situation. Erbil-Baghdad relations and efforts taken to solve outstanding issues in accordance with Iraq’s Constitution, strengthening means of cooperation and coordination to maintain stability and prevent terrorist resurgence were also discussed.

The latest calls for amending Iraq’s Constitution was discussed in detail. Officials in the meeting stressed that amendments to Iraq’s Constitution must serve all components of Iraq in accordance with constitutional amendment mechanisms.

President Barzani also met with the Leader of the National Wisdom Movement Ammar Al-Hakim, Head of the Conquest Alliance Hadi Al-Amri, Head of the Political Body of Sadr Movement Dr. Nassar Al-Rubaei, Head of the State of Law Coalition Nouri Al-Maliki and Head of Al-Wataniya Bloc Ayad Allawi.

During these meetings, officials discussed ways to solve problems and meet the legitimate demands of Iraq’s citizens. The importance of cooperation and coordination between Iraq’s political parties were also discussed.

President Barzani was accompanied by vice presidents of the Kurdistan Region and the Head of Dewan of Kurdistan Region Presidency.
