The President of the Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani received Lars Ronnås, the new Swedish Ambassador to Iraq.
President Barzani congratulated Ambassador Ronnås on his new assignment and wished him success in his duties. He expressed Kurdistan Region’s readiness to further develop relations with Sweden, especially investment and economic ties.
In the meeting, President Barzani presented an overview of the situation in Iraq, the reform process in the Kurdistan Region, Erbil-Baghdad relations and their willingness to resolve outstanding issues in accordance with the Iraqi Constitution.
Security cooperation and assistance in combating terror threats was also discussed.
Ambassador Ronnås reaffirmed the importance of continued cooperation between Iraq and the Kurdistan Region with Sweden. He also highlighted the significant role of European countries in the wider region.
