Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani, Commander-in-Chief of the Peshmerga Forces, met with the Supreme Committee for the Reorganization and Unification of Peshmerga Forces at the headquarters of the Kurdistan Region Presidency in Erbil on Monday.
Discussions focused on the status of the Peshmerga Forces, the latest developments in confronting ISIS terrorists, the ongoing efforts to reorganize and unify the Peshmerga units and the obstacles ahead, and the reform process in the Ministry of Peshmerga Affairs with the support from the Coalition Forces.
Discussions also covered the concerns of the Ministry of Peshmerga Affairs and ways to address their urgent needs, as well as coordination of the Peshmerga and Iraqi Federal forces with the International Coalition Against ISIS, especially in areas covered by the Article 140 of the Constitution.
The meeting was attended by the Vice Presidents of the Kurdistan Region, the Minister of Peshmerga Affairs, the Chief of Staff, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Peshmerga Affairs, the Supervisors of the 70 and 80 Units of the Peshmerga and the Reporter of the Committee. It was decided to include the other concerned parties within the Kurdistan Regional Government into the Supreme Committee for the Reorganization and Unification of the Peshmerga Forces, to provide the urgent needs of the Peshmerga forces on the front lines of the war against ISIS, and to work with the related Iraqi authorities to bridge the security vacuum between the Peshmerga forces and the Federal forces.
