Following the opening ceremony of the Slemani Economic Summit for Investment and Development, President Nechirvan Barzani spoke to members of the press about the significance of the summit and the current political situation in the Kurdistan Region. In response to questions from journalists, he also commented on the process of unifying and reorganizing the Peshmerga forces, as well as the formation of the new Kurdistan Regional Government cabinet.
At the beginning of his remarks, President Nechirvan Barzani stated:
“I wish to express my gratitude to the Vision Foundation and my friend, Mr. Adnan, for inviting me to participate in this summit. I am pleased to be here once again with all of you in the beloved city of Sulaymaniyah. Through this platform, I convey my respect, warm regards, and greetings to Sulaymaniyah and all the people of Kurdistan.
“I believe this will be a very productive conference. It is an important conference in which we reflect on how to make the Kurdistan Region a place where investment can take place across all sectors and through which, God willing, we may take steps toward the broader development of Iraq.
“I wish to express our satisfaction with the improved political climate that now exists among Kurdistan’s political forces, particularly between the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan and the Kurdistan Democratic Party. We remain hopeful that this positive atmosphere will lead to a positive outcome. I extend my gratitude to all participants. Your presence is greatly valued, and we trust that all endeavors will achieve favorable results.”
In response to a question regarding the process of unifying and reorganizing the Peshmerga forces, President Nechirvan Barzani stated:
“We will hold an event in the near future. All Peshmerga forces have been integrated within the framework of the Ministry of Peshmerga Affairs, and we will make an official announcement regarding this significant development in the coming days.”
In response to another question regarding the latest developments in the formation of the new Kurdistan Regional Government cabinet, President Nechirvan Barzani stated:
“I am unable to specify when it will be formed; however, I can confirm that meetings have taken place between the Prime Minister and his Deputy, between the security forces, and between the political bureaus of both the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan and the Kurdistan Democratic Party. Currently, I can confirm that progress is being made toward the formation of the government, though I cannot say when it will be completed.”
