President Nechirvan Barzani met with Mr. Nouri al-Maliki, leader of the State of Law Coalition, in Baghdad on Saturday evening. Their discussion revolved around the political and security situation in Iraq and the outstanding issues between Erbil and Baghdad.
Both sides agreed that the Iraqi political parties and communities should work together in solidarity to confront the current challenges and to address the complicated regional situation and the threat of terrorism. To this end, Iraq must avoid being drawn into regional conflicts, and the highest interests of the country must be prioritized.
Regarding the ongoing talks between the Iraqi Federal Government and the Kurdistan Regional Government to resolve the issues between them, both sides stressed the need to solve the disagreements through understanding and on the basis of the Constitution, so that the rights and entitlements of all communities are protected.
The meeting also discussed the drone attacks against the Kurdistan Region, Iraq's relations with neighboring countries, the threat of ISIS and the repercussions of the war in Gaza across region.
