President Nechirvan Barzani and UK National Security Adviser emphasize continued cooperation

As part of his meetings at the Munich Security Conference, President Nechirvan Barzani met with Mr. Jonathan Powell, the United Kingdom’s National Security Adviser.

Their discussion focused on issues related to Iraq and regional security, as well as strengthening security cooperation between Iraq, the Kurdistan Region, and the UK. They also addressed coordination in counterterrorism efforts and confronting ISIS threats.

President Barzani underscored the importance of the UK's continued security and defense support for Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, particularly in terms of training and capacity building for the Peshmerga forces. He reaffirmed the Kurdistan Region’s commitment to working closely with international partners to promote security and stability in the region.

Mr. Jonathan Powell praised the Kurdistan Region’s role in maintaining security and stability, emphasizing the UK’s commitment to sustained security cooperation with Iraq and the Kurdistan Region to tackle emerging threats and challenges.

The meeting also covered the developments in Syria, with a particular focus on the importance of maintaining peace and stability in the Middle East.
