President Nechirvan Barzani participated in a ceremony held today at Erbil International Airport to receive and honor 9 civilians who were killed in Wednesday’s attack in Zakho, Dohuk province. The coffins were then sent to Baghdad in a military aircraft for burial preparations.
Wreaths were laid on the coffins of the victims at the ceremony, which was also attended by the Iraqi Foreign Minister, the representative of the Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, the Chief of Staff of the Peshmerga, Deputy Speaker of the Kurdistan Regional Parliament, a number of ministers, Erbil’s Governor, government officials and military commanders.
During the ceremony, the President met with the families of the fallen heroes and the wounded. The President expressed his readiness to provide full assistance to the families of the victims and support treatment of the wounded both at home and abroad.
Nine Iraqi tourists were killed and several others, including women and children, were wounded in the attack that targeted a tourist resort in Zakho border area on Wednesday afternoon.
