President Nechirvan Barzani congratulates Dr. Barham Salih on his appointment as UN High Commissioner for Refugees, expressing confidence in his capabilities. His message reads as follows:
I would like to express my heartfelt congratulations to my dear friend, Dr. Barham Salih, on his recent appointment as the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). I wish him great success in this vital global and humanitarian role.
His assumption of such a senior international role signals the international community’s trust in his capabilities, extensive experience, and political and diplomatic credentials. It is a source of pride for both the Kurdistan Region and Iraq that he is at the forefront of addressing one of the most critical humanitarian challenges worldwide.
I am confident that, with his extensive experience, he will be able to make a meaningful impact in alleviating the hardships faced by refugees and addressing their issues on a global scale. Here in Kurdistan, we have a profound understanding of the anguish of displacement and the significance of this mission, perhaps more than anyone else.
