During the third day of the Munich Security Conference, President Nechirvan Barzani met with a delegation from the German Parliament and the German Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development.
The delegation included Mr. Nils Schmid, the Spokesperson on Foreign Affairs for the Parliamentary Group of the German Social Democrats; Mr. Andreas Schwarz, a member of the Parliament’s Defense Committee; Mr. Metin Hakverdi, who serves on the Committee for European Union Affairs; and Parliamentary State Secretary Mr. Niels Annen from the Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development.
The discussions highlighted the importance of enhancing German relations with Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, as well as exchanging insights on the current situation in the country and regional developments.
President Nechirvan Barzani highlighted the importance of strengthening cooperation with Germany, particularly in advancing the defense capabilities of the Peshmerga forces and promoting peace and stability.
Members of the delegation commended the Kurdistan Region's role in the region and reaffirmed Germany's commitment to supporting Iraq and the Kurdistan Region. They emphasized the importance of broadening collaboration in development and security and the need for ongoing coordination.
The meeting also addressed various topics, including the upcoming elections in the Kurdistan Region, the status of refugees and communities within the region, and the evolving situation in Syria.
