President Nechirvan Barzani meets with Commander of Coalition Forces

President Nechirvan Barzani received Brigadier General Kevin Lambert, Commander of the Combined Joint Task Force - Operation Inherent Resolve, along with his accompanying delegation.

During the meeting, which was also attended by the Minister and Chief of Staff of the Peshmerga and the U.S. Consul General in the Kurdistan Region, the latest security developments, threats of terrorism, ISIS movements and attacks were discussed. The meeting also addressed the need to advance the unification of the Peshmerga forces and the reform process within the Ministry of Peshmerga Affairs.

Both sides agreed that ISIS still poses a serious threat to the security and stability of Iraq and Syria. Therefore, all relevant parties must enhance cooperation and coordination to confront it. They emphasized the importance of continued support from the international coalition in preventing the resurgence of ISIS in both Syria and Iraq.

They affirmed that the Kurds and other components in Syria must be included in the country’s current and future political processes. Furthermore, they discussed recent developments in the Middle East, their impact on regional stability, and the relations of Iraq and the Kurdistan Region with neighboring countries.
