President Nechirvan Barzani met with the Italian Minister of Defence, Mr. Guido Crosetto on Friday morning during the Munich Security Conference. Their discussions focused on enhancing the relationship between the Kurdistan Region and Italy, as well as reinforcing collaboration in the fight against ISIS.
President Nechirvan Barzani expressed gratitude on behalf of the Kurdistan Region for Italy's support in training the Peshmerga forces and enhancing their capabilities as part of the international coalition against ISIS. He emphasized the importance of ongoing international support for both Iraq and the Kurdistan Region to ensure the complete eradication of ISIS.
The Italian Defense Minister emphasized the significance of collaboration with the Kurdistan Region, reaffirming Italy's dedication to supporting the Peshmerga. He highlighted the importance of enhancing military and security cooperation with both Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, while also commending the Kurdistan Region's role in fostering stability in the wider region.
The meeting also addressed the most recent security and political developments in Iraq and the surrounding region, with a particular focus on the situation in Syria and other mutual concerns.
