As part of his visit to Baghdad, President Nechirvan Barzani met with Haibat Al-Halbousi, Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament.
Their discussion focused on the political and legal landscape of the country, as well as the legislature’s role in fostering stability. Both sides emphasized the necessity of mutual understanding among political parties and the importance of coordination between Erbil and Baghdad to navigate challenges in a manner that serves the country’s public interest.
They concurred that the upcoming phase should be founded on authentic partnership, prioritizing the enactment of legislation of national significance and safeguarding the constitutional rights of all communities. They also highlighted the importance of aligning perspectives to address unresolved issues in accordance with the constitution and to protect citizens’ rights.
The meeting also addressed regional developments and their implications. They reiterated the importance of preserving peace and stability in Iraq and avoiding involvement in conflicts.
