President Nechirvan Barzani meets with the Vice President of the European Commission

Also on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference today, President Nechirvan Barzani met with Vice President of the European Commission, Mr. Margaritis Schinas.

At the meeting, the two sides discussed the developments in Iraq, the recent elections and the status of the political process in the country, underlining the importance of maintaining dialogue to solve Iraq's pending problems.

Vice President Schinas clarified that the European Commission is closely following the developments in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region and deems that Iraq can become self reliant to fight terrorism and secure peace and stability through building democracy and its institutions.

Mr. Schinas stated that: The European Union continues to be committed to its relations with Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, and we hope that they will solve the problems.

Mr. Schinas praised the cooperation of Erbil and Baghdad with the European Union on the issues of migration and migrants.

He also said that the Europeans are ready to cooperate and consider Iraq and the Kurdistan Region as partners, and thanked the Kurdistan Region's cooperation with the European Union.

President Nechirvan Barzani stressed the importance of Europe's support and cooperation with Iraq to enable the country to solve its problems, which would lead to political stability. The President indicated that it is important for the European Union to adopt a comprehensive policy towards Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.

Discussions also focused on the recent developments in the wider region.
