President Nechirvan Barzani received the Defense Minister of Turkey, Mr. Hilusi Akar, and his accompanying delegation.
In the meeting attended by the Kurdistan Region Vice Presidents, the Minister of Peshmerga Affairs, the Chief of Staff of the Peshmerga, and the Head of the Department of Foreign Relations, Minister Akar shared observations on his visits to Baghdad and Erbil. He emphasized the preservation of peace and stability in the greater region and welcomed important cooperation and coordination with Turkey.
President Barzani thanked Turkey for its support against ISIS and reiterated that Iraq and the Kurdistan Region must not be used to pose threats against Turkey and other regional countries. He expressed hope that the government of Iraq will fulfill its obligations and emphasized the Kurdistan Region will continue to be a factor for peace and stability.
Strengthening of ties between Iraq, the Kurdistan Region, and Turkey, Erbil-Baghdad relations, and attention to overcoming obstacles to political progress were highlighted.
