President Nechirvan Barzani welcomed Stephen Hitchen, the UK Ambassador to Iraq.
The meeting addressed the diplomatic relations and potential areas of collaboration between the United Kingdom, Iraq, and the Kurdistan Region. They examined the current situation in Iraq, internal challenges, the upcoming parliamentary elections in Kurdistan, and the ongoing negotiations between Erbil and Baghdad aimed at resolving their conflicts.
Both sides emphasized the importance of conducting and successfully completing the elections for the Kurdistan Region and expressed hope for a successful voting process. Regarding Erbil-Baghdad relations, they agreed that issues should be resolved through dialogue and understanding. President Nechirvan Barzani highlighted that cooperation between Erbil and Baghdad is key to Iraq's stability.
The meeting also covered the situation in the Middle East, the increasing threat of terrorism, and the tensions in the region. Both parties stressed the need to maintain peace and stability and to prevent the region from sliding into more conflict and instability.
