Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani met with the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI), Ms. Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert.
President Barzani offered his gratitude for the important role of the United Nations. He expressed hope the UN would continue to facilitate the resolution of disputes between Erbil and Baghdad. In this regard, UN Special Representative Ms. Hennis-Plasschaert expressed support for the current negotiations.
President Barzani stressed that sustainable resolution of disagreements with Baghdad is essential to stability and peaceful co-existence throughout Iraq. He emphasized the critical importance of the Constitution of Iraq as the founding framework to guide and attain the resolution of difficulties and disagreements.
Other topics discussed: security including confronting terrorism and the mission of international military coalition, the political and economic situation in the country, ongoing efforts to contain the pandemic, upcoming national elections, latest developments in the greater region, and other issues of mutual concern.
