President Nechirvan Barzani received the US Ambassador to Iraq, Ms. Alina Romanowski, this evening in Erbil.
During their meeting a wide range of pressing issues were discussed, including the Iraqi budget draft and the upcoming parliamentary elections in the Kurdistan Region. With regards to the Iraqi budget draft, the President stressed the importance of passing the draft in a way that the interests of all regions and communities in Iraq are preserved, including the rights and entitlements of the Kurdistan Region, and economic growth, job opportunities, and public services are supported and improved.
The two sides also exchanged views on the issue of parliamentary elections in the Kurdistan Region, and highlighted the efforts of the Kurdistan Region Presidency to hold the elections. In this regard, the President stressed that all necessary measures will be taken to hold the elections in a timely manner.
The meeting, which was also attended by the US Consul General in the Kurdistan Region, highlighted the US relations with Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, the role and contributions of political parties in the Iraqi political process, and the developments in the wider region.
