ERBIL, Kurdistan Region, October 31, 2020
Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani issued a message of condolences on the passing of Kirkuk’s former Governor and renowned politician Dr. Najmadin Karim. Below is the statement:
The passing of Dr. Najmadin Karim was sad news for us and the people of Kurdistan. I extend my deepest sympathies and condolences to his wife, children, relatives, the people of Kirkuk and Kurdistan. I share their grief.
Dr. Najmadin Karim devoted his youth years to support the Kurdistan Liberation Movement. He took part in the September Revolution of 1961 and later in the Gulan Revolution of 1976 as a competent physician and as a Peshmerga. He assisted and served the late Mustafa Barzani devotedly when he fell ill. While in the United States, Dr. Najmadin Karim continued to serve as a skilled physician without suspending his political and diplomatic activism.
He had an unbounded commitment and dedication towards his city of Kirkuk. When he took office as governor; Dr. Najmadin Karim provided important services to Kirkuk. His sudden departure from Kirkuk due to the turbulent situation of the city at the time, left a tremendous impact on him.
Dr. Najmadin Karim was dedicated to Kurdistan and his people, which is why he maintained strong ties with the people and political parties in Kurdistan. He particularly enjoyed strong relations with President Masoud Barzani and the late President Jalal Talabani. He was at all times ready to take new tasks and responsibilities due to his strong relations with all communities.
The political struggle and dedication of Dr. Najmadin Karim will live forever in our memory and the memory of his friends, companions, and the people of Kurdistan.
