President Nechirvan Barzani received former CIA Director David Petraeus, a long-time friend of the people of Iraq and the Kurdistan Region. The discussions focused on the overall situation in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, as well as recent developments in the area.
Both sides emphasized the importance of relations between the United States, Iraq, and the Kurdistan Region, recognizing them as allies with shared strategic interests capable of cooperating across various sectors. They stressed the need to further strengthen mutual cooperation.
They also discussed the importance of preserving peace and stability in the region and highlighted the crucial role of Iraq and the Kurdistan Region in bringing together and aligning common regional interests through collaboration in the energy and economic sectors.
The meeting also covered the peace process in Türkiye, the situation in Syria, the threat of terrorism, and the dangers associated with ISIS.
