President Nechirvan Barzani received Birol Ekici, the Governor of Şırnak, Türkiye, along with his delegation, which included the Mayor of Şırnak, the President of the Şırnak Chamber of Commerce, and the President of the Cizre Chamber of Commerce.
The meeting, which also included the Governor of Erbil and the Consul General of Türkiye in the Kurdistan Region, focused on Türkiye’s relations with Iraq and the Kurdistan Region and explored trade exchanges as well as ways to enhance economic, academic, and cultural engagements between the two sides.
Both sides expressed their shared interest in furthering mutual cooperation and expanding trade, transportation, and tourism links between the Kurdistan Region and Türkiye. They also discussed the relationship between Şırnak and Erbil, as well as other governorates in the Kurdistan Region.
The meeting also addressed the impact of the peace process on regional development, including Şırnak airport, which serves tourists from the Kurdistan Region due to its proximity to the border.
