Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani received Iraq’s Minister of Migration and the Displaced, Mrs. Evan Faek Jabro in Erbil on Sunday.
At the meeting, the latest on the conditions of the refugees and the internally displaced people in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region were discussed. The two sides shed light on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and the ongoing containment efforts; especially in the refugee camps. The works and activities of Iraq’s Ministry of Migration and Displaced in the camps hosted by the Kurdistan Region were also highlighted; as well as the cooperation and coordination between the ministry and relevant authorities in the Kurdistan Region.
Both sides also stressed on the importance assuring peace and stability in the country in order for the displaced people to return to their homes, particularly Yazidis and the Christians and ways to compensate them.
The President and the Minister also emphasized on the importance of reconstructing areas destroyed by the war against terror, providing public services and employment opportunities in these areas, restoring trust among communities and strengthening an atmosphere of tolerance and peaceful coexistence among various faiths and ethnic groups.
