President Nechirvan Barzani received the leadership of the Kurdish National Council in Syria (ENKS).

Their discussion focused on the overall situation in the region, the latest developments in Syria, the circumstances of the Kurds and the Kurdish areas in the country, as well as the recent elections for the People’s Assembly of Syria.

Both sides underscored the significance of the involvement of the Kurds in the political process and in the political, legislative, and administrative institutions of Syria, viewing it as a fundamental principle for safeguarding their legitimate rights.

President Nechirvan Barzani highlighted the influential role of ENKS, the necessity of unity among the Kurds in Syria, and the importance of ongoing dialogue and understanding among all Kurdish factions.

The President further called for strengthening ties and engagement with Damascus as a means of reaching a comprehensive solution to the critical political challenges at hand, while safeguarding security and stability.

The visiting delegation, in turn, updated the President on the council’s political endeavors and activities and expressed their gratitude for the continued support of President Nechirvan Barzani and the Kurdistan Region towards the Kurds in Syria.

Another topic of their discussion was the threats posed by ISIS and its recent activities in the region. They also discussed the recent visit of Ambassador Tom Barrack, the U.S. Special Presidential Envoy for Iraq and Syria, to Erbil, where he met with President Nechirvan Barzani and Mr. Mazloum Abdi, emphasizing the need for enhanced cooperation to combat terrorism.
