President Nechirvan Barzani welcomed His Holiness Mar Awa III, the Catholicos-Patriarch of the Assyrian Church of the East, together with a number of bishops representing the Assyrian Church of the East, both in Kurdistan, Iraq, and other countries.
The discussions focused on the circumstances of the Assyrian Church of the East and its followers in the Kurdistan Region, Iraq, and beyond, with particular emphasis on the status of religious communities, their freedoms, and especially religious freedom in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq.
His Holiness Patriarch Mar Awa addressed the recent 1700th anniversary conference of the Council of Nicaea, held in Erbil over the past three days. And the Bishops shared insights about their respective churches around the globe, praising the coexistence, mutual acceptance, peace, and stability that characterize the Kurdistan Region.
President Nechirvan Barzani expressed his satisfaction with the initiatives of the Assyrian Church of the East in Erbil. He extended his gratitude for their efforts and programs, particularly for facilitating the return of several young individuals from abroad to Kurdistan, allowing them to visit and learn about their homeland and culture.
He further emphasized that the Kurdistan Region takes pride in its culture of coexistence, mutual acceptance, and tolerance among communities, and will consistently safeguard the rights and freedoms of all.
The meeting also addressed the conditions of various communities within the Kurdistan Region and Iraq.
