President Nechirvan Barzani received Ambassador Tom Barrack, the U.S. Special Presidential Envoy for Iraq and Syria.
Their discussion focused on the relationship between the United States and Iraq, as well as the Kurdistan Region. Ambassador Barrack reaffirmed his country’s strong support for the newly formed Iraqi government. Both sides acknowledged the importance of state control over arms.
President Nechirvan Barzani emphasized the Kurdistan Region’s support for Prime Minister Ali Al-Zaidi’s government and for resolving Iraq’s issues, particularly the outstanding issues between the Kurdistan Region and the federal government, in accordance with the constitution.
Both sides concurred on the necessity of developing U.S.-Iraqi relations into a balanced and enduring economic partnership that serves the interests of both countries.
The meeting also discussed recent developments in the region, the internal situation in the Kurdistan Region, and the relationship between Erbil and Baghdad. They welcomed the agreement reached between the United States and Iran aimed at ending the conflict and expressed hope that it would contribute to peace and stability in the region.
