The Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani received U.S. Deputy Special Envoy to the International Coalition, Ambassador William Roebuck.

The latest developments in Iraq, including Wednesday night’s rocket attack on the international coalition forces in Al-Taji near Baghdad were discussed during the meeting.

The two sides also discussed the recent political developments in Iraq and the ongoing efforts to designate a new candidate for Iraq’s prime minister.

Erbil-Baghdad relations, outbreak of coronavirus in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region and ways to contain the spread of the virus were also put to discussion.

In the meeting, which was also attended by U.S. Consul General in Erbil and a number of the Kurdistan Region officials, the threat of ISIS resurgence and the importance of the international coalition’s continued support to Iraq and the Kurdistan Region in confronting ISIS were also discussed.

The Syrian crisis and latest military developments in the country, the situation of the Kurds in Syria and efforts to bring the Kurdish factions together were also highlighted in the meeting.
