Today marks the 44th anniversary of the tragic genocide that was perpetrated against the Faili Kurds, where numerous lives were lost, individuals were arrested, expelled, and vanished amidst the ruthless campaign orchestrated by the former Iraqi regime. The sole reason behind these atrocities was their Kurdish ethnicity and their unwavering support for the Kurdistan Revolution. As a consequence, they were unjustly deprived of their citizenship and stripped of their rightful possessions.

We once again emphasize our appeal to the Iraqi Federal Government to provide compensation to the Faili Kurds in every respect, encompassing their citizenship and assets, in line with the ruling of the Iraqi High Tribunal that classified the crimes perpetrated against them as genocide. Our commitment to addressing their problems remains unwavering, and we stand ready to offer assistance as needed.

The genocide against the Faili Kurds and the relentless efforts to obliterate and perpetrate atrocities against the people of Kurdistan represent a somber chapter in Iraq's history, marred by grievous errors. This regrettable past has inflicted immense suffering and upheaval upon the country. It is imperative that we learn from these harrowing experiences and transform them into valuable lessons, fostering a future of harmony and acceptance in Iraq.

May the memory and souls of the Kurdish Failis martyrs, as well as all the fallen heroes of Kurdistan, rest in peace.

Nechirvan Barzani
President of the Kurdistan Region
