I extend my heartfelt congratulations to all journalists and media professionals in Kurdistan on the occasion of the 127th anniversary of the Kurdistan newspaper, founded by Mir Miqdad Medhet Bedirkhan, and the 27th anniversary of the Kurdistan Union of Journalists. I wish them continued success in their endeavors.
This occasion is a reminder of our unwavering commitment to press freedom and the importance of protecting free expression, which are fundamental pillars of democracy, societal development, and a thriving community. We will continue our efforts to foster a supportive environment for journalists, ensuring their access to information remains free from restrictions or barriers, and that any violations of journalism laws are appropriately addressed.
We firmly believe that free, courageous, responsible, and critical journalism plays a key role in building a more just and progressive Kurdistan. Thus, we continue to encourage journalists to uphold professionalism, impartiality, and integrity, avoid sensationalism and harmful discourse, and prioritize the public interest and social harmony. Journalists should also play an active role in promoting a multicultural society grounded in coexistence, acceptance, and tolerance.
On this day, we honor the martyrs of journalism in Kurdistan and all those who have made sacrifices in the pursuit of truth and public service. We also acknowledge the efforts of both local and international organizations in monitoring freedom of expression in Kurdistan, and we affirm our commitment to using their insights to further improve the media and journalism sector in our country.
