Today, we proudly commemorate the 34th anniversary of the March 1991 Uprising. On this significant occasion, I convey my heartfelt congratulations to the families of the martyrs, the Peshmerga heroes, the people of Kurdistan and all its diverse communities.

The Uprising was a pivotal moment in history, showcasing the unwavering determination of the people of Kurdistan in their fight against dictatorship and oppression. Driven by a firm conviction in the righteousness of their cause, they united in pursuit of liberty, dignity, and justice, paving the way for a new future. This movement was the culmination of a prolonged struggle and significant sacrifices made by the Peshmergas and the citizens of Kurdistan in their quest to secure their rightful entitlements in the new Iraq.

Federalism, constitutional achievements, and Kurdistan's current position and impact derived from this significant Uprising. Therefore, protecting these achievements and ensuring the rights of future generations requires unity, solidarity, and mutual understanding among all factions and communities. The current regional circumstances, along with internal and external challenges, urge us to work together with a sense of collective responsibility, learn from historical experiences, and defend the shared interests of our people.

We wish to emphasize our commitment to pursuing the just objectives of the Uprising and the peaceful diplomatic efforts to safeguard the rights of Kurdistan's people. To fulfill the aspirations of the people of Kurdistan for a brighter future and progression, it is crucial to reinforce the principles of peaceful coexistence, promote a culture of mutual acceptance, uphold democratic values, and work together with a sense of national responsibility. All generations—those who lived through the Uprising, those of today, and those of the future—must recognize the past, learn from it, and move forward with faith and hope.

Honor to the fallen heroes of the Uprising and all the martyrs of Kurdistan. May the memory of the Uprising remain ever respected and dignified.

Nechirvan Barzani
President of the Kurdistan Region
