President Nechirvan Barzani Meets with UN Security Council Members

The President of the Kurdistan Region Nechirvan Barzani met with a delegation consisting of all representatives of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) and the United Nation’s Special Representative of Iraq in Baghdad.

The UNSC delegation praised the role of the Kurdistan Region in fighting terror, providing refugees and displaced persons with a safe haven and protecting all religious and ethnic groups. They expressed their contentment to see the relations between Erbil and Baghdad are restored and improving.



The delegation also congratulated President Nechirvan Barzani on assuming his election as the President of the Kurdistan Region.
On his side, the President Barzani, presented a brief on the latest developments in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq and challenges facing the Region during and after the war against ISIS terror. President Barzani reiterated that the support of the United Nations is important for Kurdistan Region to improve relations with the Government of Iraq to implement the Article 140 of the constitution and to resolve other issues in accordance with the constitution. He also expressed his appreciation to the international coalition and United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) for supporting the Kurdistan Region and Iraq in defeating terror.



Dr. Vala Farid, the speaker of the Parliament of Kurdistan – Iraq, representatives of the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs and officials from the Kurdistan Regional Government attended the meeting.
