Erbil, Kurdistan Region, 30 July 2019 – President of the Kurdistan Region received A delegation of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) headed by Dr Luay Shabana, Regional Director of the Fund. In the meeting, Dr Shabana presented a brief on his visit’s outcome and expressed his organization’s support for conducting a Census in all Iraq and the Kurdistan Region; also for participation in 25th Anniversary of the International Conference on Population and Development and 50th anniversary of UNFPA’s founding.
In the meeting which was held in Erbil, President Barzani commended the organization’s activities and discussed the topic of Census in Iraq, he hoped Census will not be politicized, and dealt with in accordance with the Iraq Constitution. President Barzani presented a brief on the developments of the Kurdistan Region, especially, in domains of society, family and equality.
The level of cooperation between Kurdistan’s institutions and the UNFPA organisation, some other topics pertinent to the population, relations between Erbil and Baghdad and the issue of refugees and internally displaced persons and their return to their homes were among discussed topics.
